Welcome to the Istanbul University School of Transportation and Logistics (STL), the first and only logistics faculty in Turkey!

The STL which provides a unique education in international transportation and logistics at the highest academic standards is recognized across Europe as well as in Turkey. The STL offers an undergraduate degree in transportation and logistics, while the two-year Masters of Arts program allows students to earn a master’s degree in Transportation and Logistics Management. As globalization, technology and new economy establish an international trade platform where competition becomes fiercer, the possession of a logistics service that provides fast and effective flow of goods and materials across countries has been a source of competitive advantage for firms. These developments in the markets create a strong demand for a high quality transportation and logistics education in global perspective. New ideas, new products and new markets demand new insights, tools and responses. The STL now has one unified faculty as a global hub for transportation and logistics education in our region.
STL’s courses meet the needs of logistics students who are in the different stages of their careers: from new graduates and early career professionals, and burgeoning entrepreneurs, to those taking the next step to lead organizations. Our experimental-learning mode enables the students to unify their skills and broaden their horizons not only to create real value but also to become key decision makers in their prospective organizations. This is why the rooted history, networking opportunities and career support services are an integral and carefully crafted part of the STL experience.
Your education in the STL is much more than your prospective job or aspirations. A wide range of core and elective subjects means that you can test and develop new talents and areas of expertise whilst you explore related areas in depth. Our undergraduate and graduate programs in the STL has many avantgarde subjects such as sustainable and green logistics, energy logistics, medical logistics, humanitarian logistics and social media marketing beyond our core subjects like maritime, road, air and railway transportation. Since our departments have an international prospect and fields of activity, the STL attaches great importance to foreign language courses such as sectoral English, Russian and Chinese.
Logistics education experience at the STL is completely paralleled and designed to prepare future senior logistics leaders. As our student, you will have access to enriching opportunities to complement your degree including academic advising, summer internship projects, study abroad options in partnership schools, career-day opportunities along with physical and cultural facilities. In addition to these, the collaboration with industry is strong enough to establish professional networks. The STL has strong links with International Transporters Association (UND) and Association of International Forwarding and Logistics Service Provider (UTIKAD) that are the largest non-governmental organizations of Turkey in the transportation and logistics industry. Furthermore, STL is the first school in region which has been accredited by the International Road Transport Union (IRU). As another significant attainment, the education in the STL will enable the students to obtain an internationally recognized IRU Academy Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) Diploma in addition to their original bachelor degrees. Therefore, our professionally competent graduates will find ample working opportunities in seventy-five IRU member countries including the EU countries, USA, Canada and China.

Istanbul University was established in 1453 during Ottoman Empire times. It is among the oldest universities in Europe. Our university was the only higher education institution when Turkish Republic was founded in 1923. Since many academics graduated from our university and achieved many leading publications, Istanbul University has always played a crucial role in Turkey.

Istanbul University is consistently ranked as one of the Turkey’s leading universities and earlier was ranked first among 114 universities, with academic strengths, entrance, teaching and research standards in several times It has 20 faculties, 3 schools and 6 vocational higher schools which are ocated in 12 different campuses. There are 65.000 undergraduate and 14.500 graduate students.

Today, many enterprises have gone beyond borders and become multinational as a result of intense competition. Down from 1999, Turkey have been enlarging its logistics sector and have been cooperation with over 40 countries. As it is known, European Union standards raised its standards for the qualified human resources in logistics sector. Since EU emerges as a driving force for developing countries, day by day logistics education increased its popularity in Turkey.

School of Transportation and Logistics was established in 1999 in order to train specialist who are going to take roles in shaping the logistics industry in terms of national and international relations. Since its foundation, 571 students have been graduated from Turkey’s first logistics school, STL. STL consistently leads Turkish logistics industry by its efforts to educate the required human resources and contribute to transportation and logistics policies as a reputable educational institution.

​The mission of Istanbul University School of Transportation and Logistics is, in high-profile cooperation with stakeholders, to organize modern and participatory education programs focusing on the practice as well as the academic side of the issue, focusing on meeting the needs of the transportation and logistics industry; training students who are technologically and professionally qualified, equipped with an abundance of up to date knowledge, who can communicate with skills and social awareness in an international setting, who have a well-developed sense of analytical thought, who support team spirit and solidarity, who are open-minded towards professional and personal development, who are participatory, dynamic and respectful of professional ethics, and the consciousness of the society; producing knowledge through strategic and practicable scientific research and studies in the field; and leading social development by encouraging, enterprising, and international culture of management, and providing sustainable, innovative, responsible and utilitarian solutions to the world and the country, which is becoming a hub as its location dictates.

The vision of Istanbul University School of Transportation and Logistics is becoming a dynamic, innovative, open-minded, and leading educational institution at the nationally and international level, which observes universal values, and which is a trusted source of knowledge, through its activities for the raising of “trained human resources” demanded and required continuously by the service sectors of transportation and logistics, and contributions to the information of modem transportation and logistics policies” of Turkey, which is virtually a logistics hub and a bridge between Europe and Asia.

Journal of Transportation and Logistics (JTL) is a new multidisciplinary and semi-annual published official journal of Istanbul University, The School of Transportation and Logistics. The aim of the journal is to disseminate the new ideas on the issues and problems faced by transportation and logistics industry which becomes irrevocable for the global economy. JTL provides academicians and practitioners with a dynamic platform to discuss and analyze the new issues for transportation and logistics. It presents an independent, original and elaborated analysis to facilitate the interchange of information about logistics and supply chain management among business planners and researchers on a world-wide basis as well as a platform for new thinking on the problems and techniques of logistics and supply chain management. Academicians and practitioners are invited to submit articles, research papers, case studies and review articles that progress the science and practice of transportation, logistics and supply chain management. While articles in any area of transportation, logistics or supply chain management are welcomed, the editors are especially interested in those dealing with managerial applications of theory and technique. Articles which provide guidelines for framing, interpreting or implementing the transport and logistics process in the supply chain are of particular interest. Thus, subjects covered in this journal may include business; entrepreneurship; management and accounting; corporate governance; customer relationship management (CRM); marketing; human resources management; economics, finance, business & industry; industry & industrial studies; logistics; inbound and outbound logistics; supply chain management; transport industries; green logistics; reverse logistics; humanitarian logistics; sustainability; city logistics. All articles are anonymously reviewed for publication by referees who look for original ideas that are clearly presented.​
